Alex Wright – head coach & jiu jitsu Anarchist
Alex Wright is an inspirational coach with a long history in the sports he is teaching and is also well known figure in the MMA industry of the United Kingdom, USA and Europe.
Having held a black belt in Chinese Boxing (Kickboxing) and Instructor certificates in Wing Chun, Alex was awarded his Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2023 by professor Angel Lopez, it is fair to say that Alex has strong credentials in the sports he teaches at HALO.

Starting his martial arts journey in the 90’s, initially Alex’s main goal was the ability to defend himself in the tough environment he worked as a professional musician. Dabbling in boxing, Tae Kwon do and Wing Chun, it was not until the early 2000’s that he became more serious, being interested in the new sport of Mixed Martial Arts.
Joining a small and now infamous group in Newcastle, Alex travelled the UK to various MMA venues cornering, fighting and learning both with and from some of the best martial artists in the world at that time. The names are too many to mention but he personally credits Dave Elliot, Alan Orr, Mauricio Gomez, Dave Harewood and Crezio De Souza as being instrumental in his foundation.
Alex competed in MMA, Kickboxing, both gi and no gi Jiu Jitsu although he has stated he did it more for the experience than any designs on an actual fight career.
Later in his journey old friends and team mates such as Pete Irving & Duane Harper assisted his development in Jiu Jitsu, as well as spending a solid few years training solely in boxing with Matty Jobes due to injuries halting BJJ training for a period of circa 7 years.
In 2021 Alex met his Professor Angel Lopez, a connection made during his work in the MMA business. After training with Angel for a week in preparation for a tournament Angel awarded him his Brown belt. It began a new phase in Alex’s martial arts career and in hindsight was the beginning of HALO UK.
Alex is passionate about building up peoples confidence and self esteem, helping his students in their lives both in and out of the dojo. He runs a part time charitable business (FREE to those who apply) for assisting young entrepreneurs called the Anarchist Entrepreneur
Outside of the gym Alex loves motorsport, music and spends time with his two children.[ess_grid alias=”alex-grid”][/ess_grid]
