Authors note: I wrote an article on the development of BJJ and MMA in Newcastle Upon Tyne many years ago and when I find it, I will re publish it as it mentions many of the excellent people who spearheaded the sport in the area.

I absolutely cannot write about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Newcastle without mentioning the original Wallsend Boys Club (Now knocked down and relocated in our home in Newcastle nearby) where myself, Pete Tiarks, Pete Irving, Gavin Bradley, Brian Blewitt, Ian Malone, Tyronne Elliot and many others learned the REAL Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from the true pioneer of the sport in Newcastle, Dave ‘Speedy’ Elliot.

Much has happened since and there are many excellent players and schools now in the area but it is only right to mention the original group here.
