Like most modern Martial Arts clubs Tyne Valley Martial Arts uses a variety of martial arts equipment for our class. It can be broken down into two areas plus the Kimono or BJJ Gi required for the Jiu Jitsu classes.
TVMA instructor Alex runs both Fightstore in Team Valley, Gateshead and Revgear Europe. We offer a discount of 20% to members of the club use code TVMA20 at checkout on Revgeareurope.co.uk
Personal Fight Gear
Personal gear is the stuff you use yourself, generally speaking this is gear you wear such as clothing and protective gear like boxing gloves and shin guards. Beginners need a set of decent boxing gloves. We recommend REVGEAR PINNACLE boxing gloves as a baseline albeit any quality boxing glove is acceptable. If you want to browse a selection of gloves please visit Alex’s website www.fightstorepro.com where there is a useful video on how to choose the right gloves for you.
The list of personal gear we would recommend for training at TVMA is as follows:
- Boxing Gloves (essential for the Muay Thai Class) 14 or 16 oz for adults.
- Shin Guards – Not required from day one but certainly useful!
- Shorts – MMA or Muay Thai style is fine but not zips and no pockets!
- Mouth Guard – Cheaper than dentistry
- Hand Wraps – Not absolutely needed but should be used in conjunction with boxing gloves
- BJJ Gi & Belt – this is essential for the BJJ class
Useful Training Equipment
Training equipment is gear we use with one another in class. In a word Pads and Kick shields. A set of focus mitts or Thai pads and maybe a belly pad would be a very useful addition to you kit bag if you can afford a set.
- Thai pads – Small or standard size would be useful!
- Focus Mitts
- Belly Pad
